This is what we&#8217;ll use in this tutorial as well. But it&#8217;s important to remember that<strong> the &#8220;Compare at&#8221; price is not considered as a discount by Shopify<\/strong>, it&#8217;s just an &#8220;ornament&#8221; and is considered as the real price : hence any &#8220;real&#8221; discount can be applied to it (even if the discount is not supposed to be combinable with other discounts). This is something that merchants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/shopify\/comments\/1gdhhn2\/how_to_prevent_compareatprices_coupons\/\">have complained about<\/a> for a while.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the plan is the following :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a collection that only contains the products that are not on sale.<\/li>\n<li>Set up the discount so it only applied to this collection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1. Create a collection of non-sale products<\/h2>\n<p>In Shopify, go to &#8220;Products &gt; Collections&#8221;, click on &#8220;Add collection&#8221;, then give it a name (&#8220;Products Not On Sale&#8221; for instance), unselect all the channels (so that it is not displayed publicly) and set a condition &#8220;Compare at price &gt; is not set&#8221; (cf screenshot below). Set your discount to only apply to this collection<\/h2>\n<p>In SmashPops, go to &#8220;Settings &gt; Coupons&#8221;. Edit your discounts and in &#8220;Additional settings&#8221;, select &#8220;Applies to &gt; Specific collections&#8221; with the new &#8220;Products Not On Sale&#8221; collection you just created.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1123\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smashpops.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1144\" height=\"949\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smashpops.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1.jpg 1155w, https:\/\/www.smashpops.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1-300x249.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.smashpops.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1-1024x849.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.smashpops.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1-768x637.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1144px) 100vw, 1144px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hit &#8220;Save&#8221; and you should be good to go!
